1966 Batmobile

The Batmobile. Not some phallic 1980's funny car, not a 2000's battle tank. Just undiluted pure class from 1966.

This toy is based on the 1955 Ford Lincoln Futura concept car that was remodelled by George Barris in 1966 for the Adam West Batman tv show. He actually initially gave the job to someone else, but the timeline was too tight and as fortune would have it, the job fell back to Barris. To meet the deadline, he remodelled a decade-old concept car to make it into the legendary Batmobile, a gig that defined Barris' career.

It also defined every generation of Batmobile thereafter as well. Ever since, elements like the fins, the open canopy, jet-like exhaust and enough gadgets to make 007 envious are elements that redesigns of Batmobile can't be without.

An American company has just won the rights to produce replicas, so one day even I might be able to own the definitive Batmobile and park it wherever the hell I want, just like Batman. Check out the beast in action!
